Awesome photo shoot, I only posted my favorite one, check out the others here. The kitchen photo below is with Lady Gaga, how cool is that..!
Upcoming summer adventures...
Two years ago we went on a short tour and have been hooked ever since.
This time we plan to follow the route of the great Alex Wetmore! Check out the route description and pictures from Wetmore and friends pioneering the route.
Take a Seat
Dominic Gill road his tandem from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, approximately 29,519 kilometres / 18,449 miles down the west coast to Ushuaia, the most southerly city in South America. What an amazing journey, I recommend wandering around on his website. Great pictures of an incredible bicycle odyssey.
Shop Work
is shop day, usually I putter around doing whatever I'm working on. But...since I traded with Matt for another Pass & Stow I'm helping him prep for his next run of racks.
Mitering up cross braces.
North Star Tour
Pigeons to Haypress
Another Pigeon tour! This time the flock consisted of Matt Feeney, Pat & Megan Myall, and myself. We left the city around 5, stopped in Sausalito at Real Foods for some grub and made it to camp with plenty of light left. A wonderful night of food, discussion, and friendship. As usual we had the place to ourselves. Below are a few pictures of the bikes for all the equipment junkies.

My rig with a new Pass & Stow installed!
Fork Surgery
I did a trade with Matt Feeney for another Pass and Stow rack. This one is for my touring bike, well its actually my CX bike but I pressed it into service as my touring rig. Anyway... the fork crown needed to be drilled to accept the fastening hardware for the rack. I used Matt's lathe to do the dirty work.
Fork clamped and positioned for drilling.
And... the rack mounted and ready to go!
With Ortlieb front roller classics.

Pigeons roost for the night
The Pigeon tour was a fabulous success. The entire flock flew to Haypress Camp with only one flat tire. As usual there was a bunch of yummy food, fresh zucchini bread (Dylan), carrot cake (Kathleen), homemade pesto (Matt). We ate a ton and the crew guzzled all Kid C's beer in record time. Special surprise visit from the DFL Wed. Night Ride Posse. Not only that but Scotty P. showed up to wish everyone well. I dozed off around 12:30 watching the flickering lights of the city, and listening to owls call to each other in the trees overhead.
This is not 6th and Market before the street cleaners, its our table after dinner. Pretty scary huh.
Kid C was kind enough to bring a few extra for the slackers who couldn't carry their own.
Chris had the cleanest packing job. Not only that he was dumb enough to ride a single speed. He surprised us all by hammering the climb and beating even the mighty Chava.
I love this truck bike Rick is making. He told me he had few orders and we might see one on the streets of SF soon. I think Jason at De La Paz Coffee is going to start using one for delivery's. This one he made for the show. I was envious of the bucket because once we got to camp and unpacked Rick used it as a stool, now that's thinking.
Curious unpacking method...
Monsur is awesome, he has the best jokes. He also put together a slide show.
So...I was so excited about this Pigeon Tour that I felt compelled to bring a poem. I really wanted it to be something that would last and when casting about at my house this is what I found. I know, kinda heavy to lug all the way to Haypress Camp but what the hell it's a Pigeon tour!
FLYING TO WIN
The sun is setting in the west
my wings are weary and I need a rest
I have flown 400 miles or more
My body is tired, my mussels are sore
I'll go on and on to my loft
to where I will drop
I cannot stop I need to fly!
flying like the wind
flying to win
To be the best and beat the rest
I may arrive home a little thinner
but I'll be the winner
Until the next Pigeon...

So, Matt Feeney put together a Pigeon ride and invited me along. I spent the day before hurriedly digging out my touring gear and slapping everything on the bike. Because I'm touring Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming later this year I thought it would be interesting to have four bags on the bike. I don't plan on taking four bags this summer but I would at least like to see and feel what four bags are like in actual riding conditions. Up until now I have always run the bike Condor style with two small bags up front and one dry bag on the rear rack. This is my bike rigged for dirt touring Condor style.
I put on a front platform rack by Jandd. I think front platform racks are the way to go and wish I had the Nitto Big Front Rack but alas I'm a student and can't afford the fancy stuff. Of course the ultimate would to be to have another Feeney rack for my touring bike, but first I need a real touring bike! Anyway, here is what the rig looks like for the Pigeon tour. If your wondering this is my Hunter CX bike that I have pressed into service as a touring rig. As with all my Hunter bikes it preforms flawlessly but it is not designed for this and I would love to have a real touring rig someday soon. Hopefully in time for this summers escapades.
I brought tons of stuff, essentially what I would bring on a real tour. Dumb as a box of hammers? You bet, I'm feeling crazy with anticipation for this summers adventure and felt like being ridiculous. I also added a few dumber than dumb items, more on that later...
